Irish Music Lessons in Cambridge
Irish music lessons in Cambridge are held at the Rathmore Club on Cherry Hinton Rd each Wednesday during term time. We offer affordable lessons for children and adults in tin whistle, fiddle, concertina, flute, bodhrán, mandolin, banjo, and button accordion.
Lessons run in various time slots between 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm and are taught in the traditional aural way, through listening and repetition — no need to be able to read music. They take place in a friendly, informal setting, with children and adults taught in small groups around different corners of the club. All tutors and volunteers follow the Comhaltas Safeguarding Policy.
The evening is then topped off with a lively Beginners and Improvers session at 9:00 pm, where musicians of all instruments come together to play.

There are tutors available for other instruments as well – for further information about any instrument or lesson please contact us.
There are no lessons during school holidays (including half-term); see the Cambridge City Council website for future dates, or our Events Calendar page to confirm when lessons restart. The last Wednesday of each term has a tutor-led session in which everyone can participate and practice the tunes being learnt.

New to Irish music? Come and meet us – no experience needed! Drop in, say hello, and get a feel for the community. If you already have an instrument, bring it along and join our welcoming multi-instrumental lesson led by the fantastic Frank Corr from 7:30pm. This is the perfect opportunity to connect with fellow musicians, get advice, and ease into the tradition before starting individual lessons – or while waiting for a lesson slot to open up!
Beginners and Improvers session. Every Wednesday at 9pm, after official lessons wrap up, a friendly group of adult learners comes together for an informal session. This relaxed setting is a great way to build confidence, play at a comfortable pace, and reinforce new tunes before jumping into faster sessions.
