Exciting News!

We’re delighted to announce that we are welcoming a new teacher to our branch – Erin Hood, who will be offering banjo and mandolin lessons.

Erin previously taught in her home branch in Tyrone and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to our teaching team. We’re very excited to have her join us here in Cambridge!

If you or someone you know is interested in banjo or mandolin lessons, please get in touch with me directly and I’ll put you in contact with Erin.

Stay Connected

Please help us spread the word by following and sharing our branch social media pages. Promotion is a team effort, and your support really helps!

I also have plenty of flyers and posters available – if you have a local noticeboard or community space where one could go up, please let me know. I’m usually at the Rathmore Club most weeks from 6pm if you’d like to collect some.

Upcoming Events – 2026

(Please add these to your diary!)

Keeping our branch active and musical is what we’re all about. Whether you are competing, learning, or just looking for a great session, here is what’s coming up for the rest of the term.

Sunday 19th April

Midland Region Fleadh

  • Location: Newman University, Birmingham

  • Regional competitions for all ages and instruments. This is a fantastic opportunity to take part and represent our branch. We encourage all students to chat with their teachers about preparing their competition pieces.

Monday 4th May

Baldock Irish Music Day

  • Details: A full day of sessions hosted in various venues across Baldock.

  • How to join in: We want a strong branch presence throughout the town! This is a great day to play in an informal setting. As a thank you for contributing to the atmosphere, participating musicians receive a free drink. Grab your instrument and join in the tunes

Wednesday 27th May

Half-Term Break

  • Please note there will be no lessons or scheduled sessions this evening. We look forward to seeing everyone back the following week.

Wednesday 24th June

All Britain Concert Performance

  • From 8pm this evening, we will have a short informal concert featuring all of our branch members who are heading off to compete at the All Britain Fleadh this weekend. This is a lovely tradition in our branch; it is a great way for the competitors to polish their tunes before the Fleadh and a wonderful opportunity for members who can’t make the trip to see everyone perform.

Friday 26th – Sunday 28th June

All Britain Fleadh

  • Location: Brentwood County High School – London & Southern Area

  • The major annual competition for all UK branches. It is a vibrant weekend of music, song, and dance. Even if you aren’t competing, we encourage members to attend to support our qualifiers and enjoy the atmosphere.

Friday 31st July

Cambridge Folk Festival Session

  • Location: Rathmore Club | Time: 7:30pm – Late

  • Held in conjunction with the Cambridge Folk Festival, this is a great chance to play alongside visiting musicians. All branch members are encouraged to bring their instruments and join the session.

2nd – 9th August

All Ireland Fleadh (Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann)

  • Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland

  • The biggest celebration of Irish traditional culture in the world. If you are planning to travel to Belfast, please let the committee know so we can coordinate a branch meet-up and support our members competing on the world stage.
